CMM inspection in Massachusetts, from a bench in Taunton

Need parts measured and your own CMM is booked, down, or not on the floor at all? Send the print. We scope it, you drop the parts off in Taunton or ship them in, and you get back a shop-readable PDF: measured results against the print, with pass/fail or out-of-tolerance flags you can hand to a customer or your QMS.

Call or text 508-343-1219, or send the quote form. Nothing gets measured until features, sample size, report format and an estimated turnaround are agreed.

When shops send CMM work out

The usual reasons a part ends up here

  • Your CMM is booked. Production checks own the machine and a first article is sitting on the bench waiting.
  • You don’t keep a CMM. Plenty of good job shops run on height gages, mics and a surface plate until a customer asks for a full dimensional report.
  • First article before you commit the lot. Prove the first pieces against the print before you run the rest of the material.
  • Incoming or disputed parts. A second set of numbers when a supplier’s report and your floor don’t agree.
  • A new fixture or setup. Check that the holding scheme repeats before you trust sampling numbers. See what fixture prove-out proves.

Thinking about buying a CMM instead? Contract inspection is often the cheaper way to find out how much measuring you really do. If you’re pricing a used machine, read the used CMM buying checklist first.

On the bench

What gets measured on what

  • Starrett CMM: prismatic parts, datum-driven callouts, hole patterns and multi-feature reports for first articles and production samples.
  • Mitutoyo toolmaker’s microscope: fine edges, small radii and small features where a touch probe is the wrong tool, or a second opinion on one critical dimension.
  • Thread and plug gages: go/no-go and attribute checks, reported in the same packet as the CMM and optical results.

Geometry, datum scheme and feature type decide what’s practical. If a callout is outside what this bench can measure honestly, you hear that at quote, before you ship anything.

Quote fast

What to send for a CMM inspection quote

  1. The print as a PDF, with the revision. A STEP model helps but isn’t required.
  2. Quantity, and how many pieces you want measured (one first article, a sample of five, every piece).
  3. Which callouts are critical, or whether you need every dimension on the print.
  4. What “pass” means for this lot, and any customer report format you have to match.
  5. Material and condition: before or after plating, heat treat or anodize.
  6. Your deadline, and whether you’ll drop off or ship.
  7. An NDA, if you need one signed before the drawing leaves your shop.

The things that move time and cost the most are feature count, how the part has to be held to reach the datums, sample size, and how formal the report has to be. Profile and true-position callouts on a lot of features take longer to program and check than a handful of diameters. More on that in what a first article inspection costs and why.

What comes back

The report packet

  • Measured results mapped to the callouts on your print.
  • Pass/fail or out-of-tolerance flags, with outliers called out, not buried.
  • Setup notes and photos when they help the next person who reads it.
  • A PDF formatted to the callout list agreed at quote, ready for your customer or QMS.

Timing is an estimate: many first-article jobs land in about 3–7 business days after parts and a clear print are in hand. Final timing is confirmed after we see the print, sample size and current bench load.

Drop-off or ship

Getting parts to Taunton

After intake you get either a local drop-off arrangement (Taunton and Southeastern Massachusetts) or a ship-to address. Shops in Boston, Worcester, Rhode Island and Connecticut usually ship. Pack the print, packing list and any NDA with the parts; we confirm receipt before any work starts.

Honest limits: we inspect to the drawing. We don’t claim ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation, AS9100 certification or ITAR registration, and this isn’t a gage calibration lab. If your customer requires an accredited report, sort that out before parts ship anywhere.

FAQ

Straight answers

Where can I get CMM inspection done in Massachusetts?

AI Inspection Tools runs contract CMM inspection out of Taunton, MA for shops across Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and the rest of New England. Send the print, get a scoped quote, then drop parts off locally or ship them in. You get back a PDF with measured results against the print and pass/fail or out-of-tolerance flags.

What equipment do you inspect on?

A Starrett CMM for programmable, datum-driven dimensional work, a Mitutoyo toolmaker’s microscope for fine edges and small features where touch probing is the wrong tool, and thread/plug gages for go/no-go checks. If a callout is outside what that bench can practically measure, we tell you before you ship parts.

How long does contract CMM inspection take?

It depends on feature count, sample size and the current bench load, so timing is an estimate confirmed at quote. Many first-article jobs land in about 3–7 business days after parts and a clear print are in hand. Rush is discussed at quote and never promised before the job is scoped.

What should I send to get a CMM inspection quote?

The print as a PDF (STEP model welcome), the quantity and how many pieces you want measured, which callouts are critical, what “pass” means for this lot, the deadline, and an NDA if you need one before drawings leave your shop.

Are you ISO 17025 accredited or AS9100 certified?

No. We inspect to the drawing and return a shop-readable report. We do not claim ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation, AS9100 certification or ITAR registration, and we are not a gage calibration lab. If your customer requires an accredited lab report, ask for that before you send parts anywhere.
